| Iron Maiden Finally Gets Their Own Video Game |
"Up the irons, fans. Eddie's got some quests to finish.
Iron Maiden's beloved mascot is set to star in his own free-to-play video game, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, and it's coming to Android and iOS sometime this summer. He'll visit many of the surreal landscapes pictured in the band's album art over the years, taking on different forms (and new abilities) with each location he visits.
Publisher Roadhouse Interactive and developer 50cc Games are working closely with Maiden's management to deliver an enjoyable experience for fans. The various worlds Eddie visits are enhanced by music from the band's archives, including previously unheard live recordings curated by longtime engineer Tony Newton and founding bandmember Steve Harris.
This isn't Iron Maiden's first flirtation with interactive Eddie. He starred in Ed Hunter, a first-person shooter that shares its title with (and was packed inside of) the band's 1999 album. Similar to the Time Crisis arcade games, Ed Hunter challenged players to gun down threats in a series of levels based on Iron Maiden album covers.
Eddie also appeared as a secret unlockable skater in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.
Harris expressed his excitement about the project in a prepared statement. "We know many of our fans are gamers and we have long thought that Eddie and Maiden’s music and imagery would be perfect for this. It’s something we have been looking at revisiting since Ed Hunter way back in 1999. Now in 2016 it can all be done on a smartphone so it makes it even more accessible for Maiden fans everywhere and also all the gamers out there."
The band's latest album, The Book of Souls, was released in September 2015."
