It Takes Two To Make A Thing Go Right

It takes two to make a thing go right and it takes one bad ass ride to make it out of sight. That song lyric and edit on our end must ring a bell. It serves as a pleasant reminder about social media and communication coming together from opposite ends of the spectrum.

Every now and then while following our traffic reports, we can view where our imagery and links are being shared. Many times it is just a vast amount of click throughs with folks perusing content and media, but sometimes our imagery is grouped amongst a larger collective and tends to feel vastly different. 

I was following some of our traffic from Flickr and found Josh of Wrench Works' bike being featured on a blog page called Fishnet and High Heels. Look at the photo below and you will see one clean ol' Shovelhead with some vintage visible gas pumps, but when placed next to some gorgeous ladies a whole visage emerges. Beauty is everywhere...

How Does A Differential Gear Work, You Ask?

Mechanical aptitude comes in many forms, for me personally its in fabrication and general building principles. Engines, gears, parts, etc. all look like puzzle pieces in my head and I can see how they fit together based on shape and perceived function. Sometimes it might be a bit of trial and error akin to tuning a carburetor, but figuring out the precision aspects is half the fun. For other folks such as Chief its all about electrical engineering and "potential" energy. His mind wraps around it like a tortilla engulfing some tasty carne asada, rice and beans. Or we have someone such as Josh over at Wrench Works that dials into in the workings of all individual parts and fully understands the machinery as a whole and can refine the mechanical processes throughout. Lesson here is to make good friends who know what you don't know, sound familiar?

So ya wanna know about differential gears though, you say? Well, if your not Bert Baker and those gear ratios are giving you a hard time, sometimes its great to start from the beginning as we can't know everything, but can sure as hell learn more.

While our brains are crunching on gear ratios for our street fighter and new axle and transmission setup for the '51 Chevy shop truck we had to research a few places to dig into the basics and get our working plans in order.

Only thing missing from this video is if it was being narrated by Patches O'Houlihan.

Wrench Works 1977 Shovelhead

Josh over at Wrench Works recently completed his killer 1977 Shovelhead project. After a crazy roll out to the midwest in a massive snowstorm last winter he picked up his donor project and made it back in one piece and slowly started to dismantle and revamp the bike you see here. His goal was to have a reliable daily rider and one that could still turn heads as a shop bike. We think he did it up just right as she fires up on one kick. Also, this build shows what should matter most of all, reliability, ride comfort and not a trailer queen. The way he tears around on this sweet shovel, we sure as hell know it exemplifies these notions.

Wrench Works - Sturigs Run Part 1

We got a huge batch of photos from Josh over at Wrench Works from his Sturgis trip this year, back in August. Will be posting them in several batches are there are way too many for just one sitting. After seeing these roads its quite easy to understand why the multitudes descend on South Dakota for our version of Mecca. Beer, bikes and debauchery are just a side note when it comes to the grandeur that is this region of the country. Get out there and ride the great highways and backroads. To hell with excuses, take the time, tune the bikes and report back on your findings. Wrench Works- Shovel Head Build

Josh over at Wrench Works is working on his latest personal ride and as usual it will not fail to disappoint. After finding quite the deal this past winter on the horse message boards he boogied over to the midwest in a massive snow storm to pick up this runner, which ended up needing major upgrades. The bike had the lines but needed a lot of finesse to fit his attention to detail and overall precision build mastery. We will have a full photo shoot with the final build which should be done within a week or so. Once we post the photos, will also include a full spec sheet on this bitchin' Shovel Head.
