Lowside Magazine Unleashes Issue #11, Buy It Now

Constantly we hear about the death of print, when it comes to graphic design and marketing. Yes, we agree that print is slowly disappearing and less quantity and quality of magazines are able to stand the test of time, but there are a select few that are making headway. 

Lowside Magazine out of Baltimore has been growing steadily over the last few years and their design style exudes a presence that speaks volumes. They don't try to hit you over the head and talk about their cool factor, they are making it happen with ease. It is a refreshing approach and the subtlety allows for the artistry within the machinery to scream, as loud as their pipes will allow. Congrats fellas on what looks to be another great issue. Can't wait to receive our copy in the mail.

Lowside Magazine releases Issue #11

"So you hold in your hands the new and improved Lowside Magazine. Pretty sweet right? I thought so too. One of the reasons we decided to switch formats was because people always seem to think the mag is free. Like they walk up to our table at events and pick up the mag, then look at us and say thanks as they walk away. So, to me, that always said that our mag seems like a free pamphlet or something.

So for your reading pleasure we are bumping up our content and mag quality so you have something a little bit more tangible to leave sitting on the back of your toilet. We hope you dig it because we’re putting twice the effort into it and giving you more bikes to drool over.

That being said, did you ever notice how awesome the movie Easy Rider is? It’s a super out there movie, but it’s really all about two dudes just riding. There's no club bullshit, no tough guy biker image stuff or anything like that. You actually see them fix stuff that breaks on the bikes. Its about as true to life as it gets. It was always my favorite movie from that era for that reason. I can see myself in their shoes, I can look back on past rides and feel the feelings that movie portrays.

You really get a positive feeling about a man and his bike, everything else is just a detail or story along the way. As cheesy as it sounds it really shows how free Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper’s characters are, and how the bikes give them that freedom. I mean of course they were running drugs, but that's really a small detail in the story. I guess what I’m trying to say is, Easy Rider rules, do your own thing and don’t get shot in the face by two hillbillies in a truck while you’re riding."

Lowside Magazine And The Timonium Motorcycle Show

Magazines are a life blood to any scene. Whether it be a black and white photocopied punk zine, or a full color gloss edition, with excellent photography and writing. One of the main aspects we dig about Lowside Magazine is their continued approach to taking the high road. It never feels as if anything is forced or as if they are trying too hard. They just make it cool and keep it interesting. 

There is longevity in making something that is not dated to a certain era or style. Really hope to see the magazine grow in readership and page count. Get out to the Timonium Motorcycle show if you are in the area and say hello. Great bunch of folks up in Baltimore and wish we could have made it up north this year.

A Fellow Biker Needs Our Help...

A Fellow Biker Needs Your Help, not just any biker, but one with a great attitude, amazing personality and some incredible skills behind the camera lens. We are talking on Debbie Fitch and the great work she has produced as an independent photographer.

Debbie was recently involved in a high speed wreck on the highways around Baltimore and her bike and camera were destroyed in the process. Not only is she glued to a hospital bed at University of Maryland Medical Center, but she is also out of work for at least three to five months. Being an independent photographer, there is no work to fall back on for support.

I ask all you brethren of the road and those in a healthy state, please contribute a few bucks to help a good cause. Damn Great Time At The Timonium Motorcycle Show

This past weekend we were up in Timonium, MD at the huge motorcycle show and swap meet. Never quite made it over to the big chrome show next door as we had too much of a good time hanging with friends we don't get to see all the time. Hell, we barely left the area of our booth as it was such a great crowd rolling through. Looking forward to going up again next year and doing it all over again. Huge thanks to Lowside Magazine for making all of this happen!

Timonium Maryland Bike Show And Swap Meet

We will be rollin' up to north Baltimore on the weekend of February 10th to hang with quite a few friends and be a part of this huge event. Last year the show pulled in roughly around 46,000 attendees and being that it is dead in the middle of winter, folks will be coming out in force in anticipation of the warm spring weather about to come. So for yall up north we will be invading and providing the music for the after party. Not sure which bands just yet that are going to roll up but count on it being rowdy.

To say we could be hard pressed to nail down a few things we really dig in one short video, well ahem, here it be. The more content we are finding that is killer on Vimeo smokes what is available on youtube. Not only is it higher quality footage but also edited far better. One day soon we will really get our vimeo page rockin', well once we get time, as there just aren't enough hours in the day with the size of our staff.

While we are thinkin' on it, got off the phone with ol' Rich from Lowside Mag earlier tonite and damn have we got some biker and music parties linin' up for 2012 that are sweeter than Daisy Dukes on Megan Fox. Yeah, big shit is cookin' so take the time this fall and winter and get those bolts tightened down, adjustments made and rides ready for some miles...

Living The Life - The Infamous Photography of Doug Barber aka QBall

Life on two wheels just seems to be that much more fulfilling than sitting on the sidelines and talking about where our paths will take us. Ya gas up and go, its quite simple. People come and go in life and we have friends that are merely acquaintances, but the relationships we have with our machines and or those that have a similar mindset, form a bond that others can never understand. Events are planned around the next run or batch of trouble we can get into and those times are etched into the memories like a family photo.

These great times are consistently remembered by an individual such as Doug Barber or as we definitely prefer to go by, QBall. While looking at his book and photos in Living the Life, you can see folks living on the fringe and truly enjoying their time. Bikes and Hot Rods to all of us are a means of escape, not necessarily from a bank heist, but one in which are thoughts are allowed to run free and be passengers along the trip of a lifetime. While diggin' through his photos, that departure point is on every single page. This book is now forever sitting somewhere close by so we can look over and experience wander lust while grinding away through our daily workload. 

Qball is also taking things a step further for us, we asked him if he wouldn't mind contributing some photos and notes on the randomness that is life to post here on the blog and he obliged. Be on the lookout for more posts from him and in 2012 plan on all of us hittin' the road to numerous events or just idlin' up to a bar to shoot the shit.

Barber Vintage Festival - Birmingham, Alabama

If you are in the South East, do yourself a favor and get out to the Barber Vintage Festival, here is a full post from the fellas over at Dime City Cycles on the event along with what is going down.

What a wonderful time it is for motorcycling! Cafe Racer TV Season 2 is mid-way through and keeping all us glue to the TV when we’re not wrenching or riding, The Ace Cafe just celebrated it’s 10th anniversary of being re-opened and Triumph Motorcycles is in-tune with the current vintage/retro movement more so than ever!

Here are Dime City we’re busy cranking out parts and orders as well as bikes and trophies! That’s right, trophies and stands for the upcoming Cafe Racer TV Bike Show taking place at Barbers 7th Annual Vintage Festival. If you haven’t already heard it’s going to be the biggest and best vintage motorcycle event yet.

Special thanks to Lowside Magazine for the artwork design!

We’ve pulled together a handful of the awesome and talented builders from Cafe Racer TV like Loaded Gun Customs, Brian Fuller and Alain Bernard from Santiago Choppers to name a few along with the crew from DOTHETON.com as well as, Ace Cafe North America to put on a “Cafe Racer Paddock” at the top of the hill in the far western corner of the track. It’s the makings for a truly rememberable event!

As you can see, there’s a full schedule and plenty to enjoy in addition to the already fantastic elements that make up the Barber Vintage Festival. We’ve got several BIG sponsors who’ve stepped up to donate some quality items for the winners of the different bike show classes. Guys like Bell Helmets, Dennis Kirk, Lossa Engineering and Loaded Gun Customs just to name a few. To break it down, we’ve got over $1,500.00 in giveaways so far and the event is still a few weeks away!
