BCR LA is proud to present, the 37th release from Black Country Rock, Billy Don Burns "A Night in Room 8"

BCR LA is proud to present, the 37th release from Black Country Rock, Billy Don Burns "A Night in Room 8"
"Billy Don Burns came up with the best. The minute he hit Nashville he was collaborating with Harlan Howard, Willie Nelson, Wanda Jackson and writing hit songs for Connie Smith and others. Considered a friend to the greats in country music, Billy Don has always been one of those rare songwriters who shined in the Dylan/Kristofferson light of honesty and grit.

Billy Don Burns has danced on the razor's edge of between literary prophecy and addiction with turns on the run, in rehab and in jail, but in the last year Billy Don has turned it all around and turned a new page of his life.

Muddy Roots Is A New Religion

After my brain has started to clear up from all the dust, conversations, cold beer, moonshine and remembrance of another great Muddy Roots, all I can do is smile with a shit eating grin. I personally haven't attended, worked or been a part of any other festival on the level of what Jason Galaz has created with Muddy Roots.

Each year the festival grows with a creative exuberance that feels as contagious as a sing along at a Dropkick Murphy's show. No matter where you walk around the festival grounds, folks are saying hello and quick to offer a beer or maybe a chat about what bands are coming up. Is this a strange sort of utopia? It can feel that way at certain moments and makes me realize how much more effort we want to put in to help support such a great music festival.

The convergence of amazing music, festive atmosphere and some of the greatest folks you would ever want to hang with, is the very reason why we signed on to build a huge lounge for Muddy Roots 2014. The sum is greater than all the parts and we as an independent music label want to contribute and help grow such a killer event.

I have so many folks to thank for their hard work on this event and it would not be possible for us without the tight inner circle within Rusty Knuckles Music. Keeping this pirate ship afloat is no easy task and our dedicated crew is always on board to help set sail and more importantly, dive in when work needs to get done. Massive thanks for all the early preparations and help in setting up and maintaining our "lounge" this year to Mrs Knuckles, Buck and Susan Thrailkill, JB Beverley, Nate, Kitty Barks, Husky and Kari Burnette, Justin, Adam, Billy, Rascal and Randy of Carolina Still, The Aussie Posse, Lauren, all of Fifth On the Floor and road crew, Billy Don Burns, Hellbound Glory, Rash, Gypsy Jody, Jeff Leigh, Mike Fiedler, Pizza Dave, Stoney, Phil, Kate, Owen Mays and anyone else that picked up trash after the huge pre-party jam and throughout the weekend, contributed a few bucks for food or booze and overall helped to keep a great camp site maintained. This was not easy and many folks put a lot of money into making this a success

If you think we did something good this year for Muddy Roots, be prepared for 2014 as we already bought our "acreage" for next year. We have a massive space to work with and in our way of thinking, now we have a mission. Go big or go home!

Also, below are a bunch of photos found on facebook from posts. I would have enjoyed taking all of our photos to represent the festival, but unfortunately in the crunch of time to get out of town, the one item needed most that was forgotten, being my camera gear. After much use of great four letter words and being pissed off for many miles, I just had to create lemonade. Thanks to everyone who took great shots as we are damn stoked to repost them. If you want photo credit, just email me via facebook and I would be happy to oblige.

Thanks again to everyone at Muddy Roots, all the folks who show up and most of all to everyone that works their asses off to make such a great event happen. Stoked to have gotten to see sets from all the bands we work with such as Carolina Still, Hellbound Glory, Husky Burnette, JB Beverley, Billy Don Burns and to also check out God Damn Gallows, Peewee Moore, Black Flag, Left Lane Cruisers, Possessed By Paul James, Shooter Jennings, Psycho DeVilles, Hellfire Revival, Dale Watson, Whitey Morgan, Ray Lawrence Jr., Ten Foot Polecats, Sarah Gayle Meech, White Trash Blues Revival and many more. Wish we could have seen every band for full sets, but our booth / lounge was a beehive of activity. SEE YA NEXT YEAR!!!!!!

Moonrunners 2014 Music Festival Lineup Announced

"Why, yes, we are only three months out of our inaugural festival, but, if you recall, the end of July 2012 was the exact time we announced the lineup for the 2013 Festivities. We prefer to announce it early as possible, for the fact that many of the fans will be traveling from out of state, and will need to make flight and hotel reservations. Plus, we are a bit excited!

Because the first Festival was so amazing and well attended, we here at MoonRunners decided to expand the festival to two days in 2014.

It will once again take place at the VERY intimate and great venue, Reggie's in Chicago, IL. We recieved a few offers from larger venues in the area, but the hospitality and kindness that Reggie's showed us this year made it an obvious choice for 2014. Everything went so well. Every member on the Reggie's staff was top notch and made sure that everyone had a great experience.

MoonRunners Music Festival II will take place over two nights, on April 25th and 26th, 2014. Tickets will be $80 for a two day pass. That is a steal if you know the size of the venue, and take into consideration this years lineup. We will have hotel options once again, and tickets will go on sale on November 1st through Ticketfly.com.

Again, 2014 will sell out QUICK! This year, many folks were left out and traveled many miles in hopes of getting a ticket outside the door. It did not work! Get your tickets ASAP. So, with no further delay.... Here is the INITIAL lineup for MoonRunners Music Festival 2014.... One more headliner will be announced before tickets go on sale!

We are so proud to bring a country music legend, and original Outlaw to MoonRunners Music Festival 2014, as the headlining act will be....."

Shooter Jennings - The Other Life

Definitely stoked to get a copy of Shooter Jennings new album based on the glowing review below from Itunes. After seeing him perform solo a few weeks back, damn does he know how to bring it to the stage. Honored to say he is a solid dude and looking forward to saying hello down the road sometime soon.

Get your copy of his new album from Itunes

"Shooter Jennings has always demanded to be taken on his own terms. If 2012's Family Man was his most "country" album, The Other Life is its companion and mirror, not its follow-up. Six of these tracks were cut at the earlier album's sessions, including the firebrand "Outlaw You," the tune for the music video that was a musical middle finger to Eric Church and Jason Aldean (which has curiously gone unanswered). The Other Life is wilder, darker, rowdier, and more diverse than its predecessor. The brooding opener "Flying Saucer Song," a piano- and effects-driven number, is eventually transformed into a spaced-out, gospel-tinged song about space (outer and inner). It throws the listener for a loop, but resolutely belongs — but only as the first cut. The set contains gorgeous country ballads such as "Wild and Lonesome" (with Patty Griffin on backing vocals) and the title track. There are fine, midtempo honky tonkers including "The Outsider" and the pedal steel- and banjo-saturated "The Low Road." There are steamy, electric, country-kissed, blues-rock numbers such as "A Hard Lesson to Learn," and the rock & roll boogie of "Mama It's Just My Medicine." There's a shuffling, snarling, futuristic, midtempo Americana tune in "15 Million Light Years Away," with reverb-drenched production that features a weathered (not weary) Jim Dandy — from Black Oak Arkansas — as a duet partner. The first single is a wooly, rowdy reading of Steve Young's "White Trash Song," with Scott H. Biram guesting. Young, an underground legend, authored the outlaw anthem "Lonesome Orn'ry & Mean," a signature tune for Jennings' dad. This reading of the 1971 tune contains skittering rockabilly drums, pumping upright bass, wailing pedal steel, hyper-acoustic guitars, piercing fiddles, and an additional verse. (Neither Jennings nor Biram took a co-write for it; something unheard of in Music City.) It underscores the iconoclastic legacy bequeathed to Jennings by his free-spirited parents. But more than that, the song is a celebration of all that doesn't fit — anywhere. It's an apt self-referential metaphor. Album-closer "The Gunslinger" is Jennings' own anthem, drenched in country, rock, R&B, and even jazz, courtesy of the improvisational interplay between Jonathan Stewart's tenor saxophone, guitars, keyboards, and the rhythm section. Its lyric is a militant gauntlet directed at those who would disrespect him, yet displays a camaraderie with outsider musicians of all stripes. Jennings truly came into his own on Family Man, but on The Other Life, he pushes the boundaries further, offering some of the finest songs he's written to date. He fully realizes here what he's been attempting all along. Box these sounds whichever way you want to, but they are all Shooter Jennings, and as music, The Other Life is all killer, no filler."

Shooter Jennings - The Other Life
"Shooter Jennings is the gifted creation of Waylon and Jessi Colter, two of the truest stars in Country Music. In his newest CD, The Other Life, he continues to go his own way and speak his own words as passionately and absolutely as original as his parents. Powerful, hard-rocking grooves on 'A Hard Lesson' and 'The White Trash Song'; heart and soulful 'Wild and Lonesome' and 'The Other Life,' the tough truthfulness of 'The Low Road' and 'Mama, It's just My Medicine,' the proud self-portrait of 'The Outsider,' to the in-your-face, 'Gunslinger' ... somewhere Waylon's smiling." — Kris Kristofferson

Talk About Crazy, The Billy Don Burns Story

Billy Don Burns is a true Country Music Warrior. He wears his battle scars with honor, depicting the stories of his life in his songs with brutal and beautiful honesty. He's respected far and wide for his long career in songwriting and performing, and he's still out there. He's lived it and breathed it through lifetimes of country music passion and pain. Carrying the guitar like a sword on his back, he battles for the Poet. He battles for the Artist. He battles for the souls who defy modern convention. And every time he strikes a chord in some smoke-filled Honky Tonk, he wins. Billy Don Burns started out in this business working with legends, and somewhere along the way he became one himself.

Talk About Crazy, The Billy Don Burns Story is now being shot and filmed with numerous country music luminaries and will be in production for all of 2013.

Outlaw Snowdown, Featuring Fifth On The Floor And Shooter Jennings

Micro festivals have been popping up all over the map and one of the great elements of these gatherings is that raw talent gets to intersect with larger audiences. Big tours and being able to play large festivals, are much harder to be a part of due to logistics and most of all, the connections you have. If ya want to get noticed, tour your asses off and also seek out the festivals happening all around the country catering to niche audiences. Consider yourself a gold miner and start panning, as its not going to be handed to ya!

Check out all that is the Outlaw Snowdown

"The Outlaw Snowdown is more than a music festival… it’s a high-country congregation of  folks lookin’ to have a good time; a play-hard weekend for the work-hard set.

With a line-up of artists that run the gamut from Red Dirt and Cowpunk to Americana and  Outlaw, the one thing each act has in common is a kick-ass, live country show.

The main stage, featuring Shooter Jennings, Micky and the Motorcars, Whitey Morgan & the 78′s, Lydia Loveless, Fifth on the Floor, Chad Sullins and the Last Call Coalition, Caitlin Cannon + the Artillery and Brooks-i will be situated in a heated tent in the athletic field on Hermosa Street (across from Town Park) in downtown Pagosa.

Ride Wolf Creek by day and howl at the moon by night. The Outlaw Snowdown… big fun in a small (ski)town! Feb. 8 & 9, 2013!"

Shooter Jennings And J.B. Beverley At The Drunk Horse Saloon

One off shows are always damn interesting and it's usually due to a band rolling through a local area, who just so happens to be friends at a certain locale. No matter the case, it is always great to see cool events happen at awesome new clubs. Fayetteville, NC is known to being home of Fort Bragg, the largest US Army base in the world and now also home to the Drunk Horse Saloon. Pawley and his band of brothers have opened a great club and we hope to see them prosper with such a great live music venue.
