Moonrunners 2014 Music Festival Lineup Announced

"Why, yes, we are only three months out of our inaugural festival, but, if you recall, the end of July 2012 was the exact time we announced the lineup for the 2013 Festivities. We prefer to announce it early as possible, for the fact that many of the fans will be traveling from out of state, and will need to make flight and hotel reservations. Plus, we are a bit excited!

Because the first Festival was so amazing and well attended, we here at MoonRunners decided to expand the festival to two days in 2014.

It will once again take place at the VERY intimate and great venue, Reggie's in Chicago, IL. We recieved a few offers from larger venues in the area, but the hospitality and kindness that Reggie's showed us this year made it an obvious choice for 2014. Everything went so well. Every member on the Reggie's staff was top notch and made sure that everyone had a great experience.

MoonRunners Music Festival II will take place over two nights, on April 25th and 26th, 2014. Tickets will be $80 for a two day pass. That is a steal if you know the size of the venue, and take into consideration this years lineup. We will have hotel options once again, and tickets will go on sale on November 1st through Ticketfly.com.

Again, 2014 will sell out QUICK! This year, many folks were left out and traveled many miles in hopes of getting a ticket outside the door. It did not work! Get your tickets ASAP. Shooter Jennings Top Albums Of 2011

Sirius XM Radio is an amazing medium for all the music we enjoy. In a few clicks we can pop on any station we enjoy and hear quite the variety of music to which we leave going all day. As soon as we started to hear Shooter playing Hellbound Glory on the outlaw country channel we knew many folks far and wide would really tune into the sound of Reno's finest. 

As we know it, terrestrial radio or FM is for the most part dead. Our local rock station has fired all of its DJ's and we have heard far better playlists on college stations for years rather than what is considered mainstream. When bands ask where their music can be heard, the best place I want to tell them is live. Online radio is just one format but its flat and lacks the pure connection that live shows have with an audience. Bands now have to go full circle and take their music into the venues and clubs to win fans one by one and use social media as just another tool, not the be all end all.

We thank folks such as Shooter Jennings for his continual promotion of great bands such as Hellbound Glory and cluing his listeners in to their music. Below is his write up on Hellbound Glory's, Damaged Goods as one of his top ten picks of 2011.

Shooter Jennings votes for Hellbound Glory as one his top albums for 2011

"As for Hellbound Glory, well then right after I'd gotten comfortable with Scott's record, in comes "Damaged Goods". Like a Merle Haggard record for the apocalypse. This record is proof why Leroy Virgil will transcend the underground scene based on his writing alone. It wouldn't surprise me if this dude's songs were being covered by contemporary country artists in the years to come. The danger he exudes in his words and the inventiveness and smarts when it comes to writing traditional country music with a twist of the ugly modern world gives Mr. Virgil quite the leg up on most. Plus he's got just enough Hank Jr. to appeal to the fans of the photocopy-of-a-photocopy-of-a-photocopy of Hank Jr guys that are currently topping the charts.  Either way, the band rules, the singer has a great voice and the songs are top shelf. I'd advise both of these albums as MUST-HAVE-STOCKING-STUFFERS." - Shooter Jennings

Hellbound Glory - Damaged Goods - Reviewed Over On Moon Runners

Another great review that rolled in from MoonRunners, the new site from Shooter Jennings, Outlaw Radio Chicago and quite a few others. Dive into some of their articles as they are adding another flavor of information to all that we know and dig.

"At first listen, I thought Hellbound Glory, one of my favorite bands, had released a sub par album. Most of the songs off "Damaged Goods", I have heard many times live throughout the past year, most notably on the Rusty Knuckles stage Saturday night at Muddy Roots. Songs such as "Bastard Child", and "You Better Hope you Die Young" were still fresh in my head when I received the album from Leroy a few weeks back. But, the rest of the tunes seemed a little slow and unexciting for me. Maybe it was the more stripped down sound or more mellow overall tone, but, I just didn't get it. But, I forced myself to keep listening knowing that I could not just throw this one on the back burner.

And, low and behold, somewhere between the fourth and fifth listen, the album clicked, and it hit me hard. Not only is this album not subpar, it is far and above the best Hellbound Glory release to date, and that is saying a lot, considering "Old Highs and New Lows" and "Scumbag Country"are two of the finest releases in recent memory.

Fans who have caught on to the Hellbound buzz lately may be a bit surprised that many of the drinking and druggin' songs that make up a good portion of the first two albums are mostly absent from this one. Instead, they are replaced by story-telling tales of friends dealing with addictions ("Knocked off the Horse", "You Better Hope You Die Young") and fun numbers about fighting with bouncers. ("Til the Lights go Out").

Leroy Virgil, the voice and song writer of Hellbound, is in a league of his own when it comes to telling stories. I challenge anyone out there to find a country artist out there today (mainstream or underground), that can even come close to what Leroy writes. Songs of love, heartbreak and destruction are told like no one else can tell them. For my money, "Bar Room Beauty" and "You Better Hope you Die Young", are the two finest songs of 2011.

I think this is why I enjoy this album so much, because I can relate to so many songs on this one. Whether it be "Lost Cause", which explains to a woman why she is making a mistake for loving him, or, the above mentioned "Til the Lights go Out", about running your mouth to a much bigger, stronger bouncer with no fear. These are stories of everyday life for some of us out there, and not many writers live the life that we do. Leroy does and tells it like it is, and I applaud him for that.

Out of the many great songs, only two, are songs that I am not thrilled about, but are still catchy numbers. "She Left me in Modesto" and "White Wolf" are still strong numbers, but just don't seem to fit the theme of the album to me. But, I am sure Leroy was not going for a theme to this album anyways.

Overall, anyone who enjoys "Old Highs and New Lows", and "Scumbag Country", will find this one just as appealing. If you don't get it the first time around, give it a few more listens and enjoy!
