Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age Dedicates All Funds From The Sweet Stuff Foundation To The Victims Of The Paris Terrorist Attack

Good on Josh Homme of the Queens Of The Stone Age and the Eagles of Death Metal for using his foundation to honor the musicians, crew and fans that were killed in Paris during a terrorist attack and donating all money received to them through December 31, 2015.

"The mission of The Sweet Stuff Foundation is to help our musical community and their families with the vital elements often overlooked during periods of illness and disability. Things like transportation to medical treatment, assistance with childcare and tuition, income assistance, the "last wishes" of a lifetime, and special treatments not covered by insurance. The healing power of music is also a vital form of preventative medicine. That's why the Sweet Stuff Foundation's two prong approach is also committed to providing assistance for music lessons, instruments, and musical collaborations for children. To help foster an atmosphere of creativity & introduce a healthy outlet via music, so that the "Sweet Stuff' will continue for generations to come."

So Ya Wanna Be A Roadie - Part 6 by Vice.com

Check it, once again Boots Electric waxes poetic on the greatness, that they call home in the Yucca Valley of California. After watching this, do yourself a favor and dig into the Desert Sessions recordings. This can help to immerse that cerebral cotrext of yours into the soundscape of the desert heat and cool nights that envelop some of the music coming from this oasis.

"It’s Episode 6 of Marshall Headphones: On The Road, and the next stop is Rancho de la Luna, the spiritual home of the desert rock scene. Rancho is a recording studio where the likes of Arctic Monkeys, UNKLE and PJ Harvey have come to try to recreate the spirit of the original desert bands. After a jam session with his fellow Eagles of Death Metal man, Dave Catchings, and his girlfriend, acclaimed adult film star Tuesday Cross, Jesse persuades them to play a live show at a party in the desert."

While thinking on another desert oasis, I remembered of a spot always dreamed of skating but never got the chance to and now its gone for good. Oh Nude Bowl, always wanted to ride your smooth walls in the desert night with Kyuss jammin' in the background...

So Ya Wanna Be A Roadie Part 3

Episode 3 of Marshall Headphones: On The Road and after a tour of the legendary Sunset Strip, Jesse heads for the House of Blues to meet Nick Rucker, the one man road crew for Steel Panther, the band that has been paying homage to the music, questionable style and hedonism of 80s style hair metal for the last ten years and are showing no signs of slowing down.

So Ya Wanna Be A Roadie...

Leave it up to Jesse, frontman from the Eagles of Death Metal to give a candid point of view about life on the road and who makes up a road crew. If you plan or want to know what it is like to eat three meals from truck stops and then have different drinks in different cities each night, well keep watching. In this multi part series from the fine folks over at Vice Magazine, you can get the inside scoop on the roles within a road crew and where ya just might fit in.

Many a famous roadie has gone on to being in a band. Take for example Toby from H20 who used to be on the road with Sick Of It All or you have Frank Bello who roadied for Anthrax and now plays bass or for the coup de gras, Lemmy actually roadied for Jimmy Hendrix. Just a few examples to get you warmed up on what it is possible if you can't actually play the music and be in a band, doesn't mean you can't be part of the show.

Great tools you will need for this job
• Leatherman combo of light and multi tool
• Surefire flashlight (makes nighttime daytime)
• Learn how to drink professionally, yes know yer limits and how to drink when needed
• Can fix anything on the fly
• Quick wit as you will live on 1 to 2 minute conversations
• Hotel fitness regiment or grassy knoll at a truckstop (amps are heavy, get prepped)
• Network like a mofo
• Realize everyone always knows everyone else, whether you do or not, keep yer trap shut

In Episode 1 of Marshall Headphones: On The Road Jesse goes to The Wiltern theatre in LA to meet legendary soundman Hutch as he works on a special performance by Queens of the Stone Age. He also talks to Josh Homme and Troy Van Leeuwen from the band about the band/roadie relationship and why Hutch is essentially a member of QOTSA.

Nick Oliveri Will Be On Hiatus

Sad to hear news on Nick Oliveri as we are huge Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age fans. If you haven't heard ol' Nick was busted by the Los Angeles SWAT team last month and found with methamphetamines, loaded rifle and causing a ruckus with domestic issues. Too bad they didn't send in our illustrious locals from Lizard Lick Towing to gain control of the situation instead of the SWAT team and speak to him on terms he might best understand. That surely could have been made for TV.

"Just when we thought bassists couldn’t get any crazier, former Queens Of The Stone Age/Kyuss bassist Nick Oliveri proved us wrong. Last month, the bassist found himself in an intense standoff with a S.W.A.T. team at his L.A. house after cops were called to the scene for a “domestic disturbance.” And now he could find himself in jail for a long time.

According to TMZ, Oliveri was officially charged this past weekend with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor count of resisting. At the moment, the bassist could serve up to 15 years in prison if convicted. And seeing that police found a fully-loaded rifle, cocaine and methamphetamines in his house the night of the incident (not to mention his supposed history with domestic violence), it’s safe to say his chances of getting acquitted aren’t looking so hot. Oliveri is due in court next month.

It’s currently unclear as to how this will affect his current role in Kyuss Lives! Though they’ve said that it’s only temporary, the group played a few European dates with bassist Scott Reeder (who first replaced Oliveri in 1992). Whether Reeder will continue to play with the band on their upcoming U.S. tour is uncertain. However, it’s a pretty sure thing that Oliveri will not be on tour with Kyuss Lives! this Fall."
