Buzzoven - A West Coast Tour Story, by Kirk Lloyd Fisher

From Buzzoven Kirk's blog on Google...

"So its been right at a week since our west coast tour with the mighty Bongzilla ended. Needless to say, we hit it off very well with the Bongzilla boys.Actually Dixie played on one of their albums and did a tour with them. Me and Michael (Pee Wee) really hit it off and i firmly believe i have a new brother in him for life. Touring with them, renting their back line and all around working together made life on this tour much easier. Bongzilla is still out there touring so get out and see them and buy some merch if you can to support this hard working band.

I have a few individual stories to tell but I'm just typing some thoughts and observations from this recent 8 day jaunt through the west. I want to be sure i tell the stories i have as they actually happened and get permission from all those involved so i don't step on any toes or piss anyone off. I never piss anyone off. HA!! While our first tours back, in 2011,after 10 years of doing nothing proved to be lucrative and full of hype, this recent leg of shows, which by the way was after another 4 year lull proved to be good but only part of the hype previously experienced was present. It's becoming painfully obvious that if we don't stay busy, tour and work harder we will slowly dwindle back to an unknown band of the past. Some musicians i feel get spoiled from certain things being a certain way and expect that every tour or show will be just as lucrative and also bigger venues with a consistent amount of crowd attendance. Which of course is not the reality of being in the music business as things change year to year and even day to day.

Original post on Razorcake

"Buzzoven was a band ahead of their time, or a band that was part of starting a trend, depending on your perspective. In the early ‘90s, these North Carolina boys were touring a lot and playing punk shows. Their regular visits to NYC garnered a loyal following and kinship with local bands. At a time when peace punks were getting into doom metal and bands with firm roots in hardcore punk started playing slow and heavy, bands like Buzzoven were right in the middle of a new genre of sludge stoner doom metal. In 1993 Buzzoven was really just a new breed of slow and heavy hardcore. Oh, what the future had in store.  - Chris Boarts Larson"  Check out Slug and Lettuce

Muddy Roots Music Festival Is Featured In Rolling Stone

You can now believe Rolling Stone's latest article about the best music fests of 2016 or you can dive into the underground roots music scene with its epicenter festival of Muddy Roots every labor day weekend. We have only missed one year and that was the first and from the friends and folks that we see and hang with every year, it is hands down one of our favorites to be a part of.

More than Jazz in New Orleans?

Down plays Mardi Gras at the New Orleans Civic Center

Since the city of New Orleans is synonymous with  Mardi Gras, The French Quarter, Bourbon Street, crawfish, and Jazz, it's hard to imagine the city being home to a rock scene.

Catl Invades Europe On Tour and Lands In Freiburg, Tour Write Up Part 3

Catl Invades Europe On Tour and Lands In Freiburg, Tour Write Up Part 3

We left our friends Sabina and Frank in Cologne. I bought and consumed a delightful cheese sandwich from a local vendor and off we went to Freiburg which signaled the beginning of 8 shows straight. This will either turn us into the tightest, sloppy rock and roll band or we'll drop dead trying.

After arriving at the Slow Club and got ripped off by the cabbie. He's what you call in German - a dickhead (very similar to English). The club looked kinda non-descript from the outside, but what wonders filled its hallowed halls. Never have we been taken care of better than the people that ran this club. All the local beer and organic wines we could swallow, a beautifully prepared pumpkin soup and lasagna dinner and a place to sleep upstairs. I've seen some band crash-pads in my day and I wouldn't let a blind dog sleep in them. This place was gorgeous with a fully stocked kitchen, linens on the beds, a shower and fresh towels. Spotless.

Catl Invades Europe, Tour Write Up Part 2 While Rolling Through Belgium

Catl Invades Europe, Tour Write Up Part 2 While Rolling Through Belgium and meeting the good luck monkey.

So we got driven to Mons, which is an hour away from Brussels in two small cars with all our gear. I said "wouldn't one giant American-style car be enough?", and everyone hugged and laughed and lit their cigarettes.

We played downtown near their city hall where they had a beautiful giant Christmas tree surrounded by some very unsteady skaters. Apparently, we shouldn't expect any hockey threats coming out of Belgium.

Sarah and me prepped for the show by 'touching the good luck monkey' near the Mons City Hall. We reluctantly rubbed its shiny little noggin and wouldn't you know it, the show was killer. Thanks Mr. Lucky-Monkey-Man!

"Innovation is one of the very things that keeps a genre growing, and thriving. It helps take down all of the boundaries, and really gives it a fresh new sound. While southern metal has been around for quite some time now, you don’t see too much of it anymore, at least anywhere near the mainstream circuit. Bands like Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Texas Hippie Coalition, Honky, and Norma Jean popularized the combining of metal and country music influence, and now Stump Tail Dolly is taking it to a whole new level. A duo of two feisty, and sensational artists, “STD” is bringing back a style of music that quite a few consumers of both the metal, and country scene enjoy.

Read About One Of The Rarest American Motorcycles Ever Assembled

"Possibly one of the rarest American motorcycles ever assembled, the Cyclone powered, OHC 8-valve Reading Standard factory works racer is photographed here with legend Ray Creviston on the company dock in 1921. Beginning in 1903, Reading Standard began manufacturing high quality American motorcycles known for their durability, and from the start the Pennsylvania based company garnered accolades for their performance on the track.

Cascade Record Pressing Is Open For Business And Bringing The Heat To The Vinyl Record Manufacturing Competition
Cascade Record Pressing Is Open For Business and looking to expand upon the small stable of vinyl manufacturers operating within the continental United States. We can personally validate their quality as they sent us a test pressing and it is well made and the sound quality is fantastic. Best of luck fellas and hopefully we will be working with yall in 2016 on some 7" vinyl record projects we are planning to release.
"On May 28, Cascade Record Pressing's website went live, with the ability to accept orders from labels and musicians for all types of vinyl projects, with runs of 500 records and up. These orders are fulfilled at Cascade's brand-new plant in Milwaukie, Oregon, where sacks of PVC pellets the size of lentils are transformed into flat, shiny 12-inch records, packed with grooves of sound.

Spotify Is Stomping Beats Music, But For How Long And Will The Freemium Models For Streaming Music Be The Future?

Reading a plethora of articles around the ever changing and evolving landscape of the music industry, is a constant reminder to us that in this industry, it's all about adapt or die. If you think you are going to be making a living off selling cds and hitting the road, you should just stay at home, save the gas money and the frustration. Instead focus on the big picture about cultivating your audience and perfecting your craft to the utmost. Fans will find your music through all the channels available and if they are listening in droves, it is time to start a plan of action.

Furnace Manufacturing Has Now Secured 10 Refurbished Vinyl Record Pressing Machines From Mexico

Furnace Manufacturing Has Now Secured 10 Refurbished Vinyl Record Pressing Machines From Mexico

After the explosion of vinyl records, lag times for albums to come out will hopefully be a bit quicker on the production side of the things. Many records are actually being made in the Czech Republic or Germany and there are only a handful of companies actually making their vinyl here in the good ol' USA. Now for that short list you can add Furnace Manufacturing to that select group, after they secured ten vinyl record pressing machines out of Mexico. Kudos to them for helping to bring some much needed steam back to the this once again burgeoning industry and doing it in Fairfax, Virginia.

Epiphone - On The Road With Whiskeydick

Epiphone - On The Road With Whiskeydick

It is great to see that Whiskeydick is getting the attention they deserve. For a good while they have had an artist endorsement with Epiphone Guitars, but after they crashed the party on the Alternative Country Charts, debuting at number one, a few corporate gear sponsors are really starting to take notice and feature the band prominently. Huge thanks to Epiphone Guitars for the feature post.

Husky Burnette Set To Re-Release "Tales From East End Boulevard"

Husky Burnette Set To Re-Release "Tales From East End Boulevard"

"Husky Burnette re-releases great 2013 collection—with some special extras
Sometime in late fall or early winter of 2013, Husky Burnette released the album Tales from East End Boulevard. It was a particularly powerful collection of tunes, prompting at least one eerily prescient reviewer to dub it, “The album that will be remembered for making Husky Burnette.”
Now, a little over a year and a half later, the album is being re-released by the Rusty Knuckles record label with four new bonus tracks in preparation for the fall “Tales Revisited Tour.” The re-release and the tour are only the precursors to Burnette’s latest, greatest effort to date, Ain’t Nothin’ But A Revival, scheduled for release in mid-November.

Motobunny Interview On Artist Direct

Motobunny photo - nie-dravnos.deviantart.com

"Who are Motobunny? We are glad you asked. You will find out everything you need to know about the band via this Take Aim feature.

Strap yourselves in and get acquainted with Motobunny.

Twitter-size your bio.

After years of touring together in different bands, four longtime friends from Los Angeles and Phoenix sketched out an idea for a co-female-fronted band built on glossy glitter pop harmonies, vicious rock riffs, slick bass grooves and Bonham-esque drums. We recorded 12 original tracks in Detroit with Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Dirtbombs). The result was electric, the songs infectious. Our debut album, Motobunny, is now blasting into earbuds and airwaves around the world. We are four friends who love sharing on-stage and off-stage time together more than ever before and have set our sights on a future world tour.

If you were not doing music, you would be...

Michael: An artist of some sort…
Rik: A priest.
Nicole: On a champagne tour of France or designing shoes.
Christa: Dead.

Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?

Nicole: Writing children's books, professional-grade napping.
Michael: Graphic design, cappuccino-making.
Rik: Hobbies: Metal detecting; Skills: Speaking in tongues.
Christa: I love cooking, I sew, make jewelry, dabble in millinery, paint, pretty much anything working with my hands! I have a store on Etsy (Bandit Boutique) where I sell some of my creations. www.Etsy/shop/BanditBoutique.com

Pick ONE song on your record and share a writing or recording story. Something intimate, that you haven't told anyone else (or at least a bunch of writers or journalists) and that which puts us in the moment with you. Let's get intimate, shall we?

'The Other Side' might be the most intimate song on the album. Michael wrote it from the perspective of his uncle, trying to imagine what he went through during his final days in hospice care.

Christa: My favorite song is 'I Warned You.' It has just the right amount of pain and angst. It's threatening while at the same time you can't help but surrender to it. It's a universal theme I think everyone has experienced at one point in their lives. This whole album was basically written in our pajamas at Michael and Nicole's place over the course of two weekends. We then headed to Detroit to record it, and run through the snow like 5-year-olds. We all shared a studio motel room. The fireplace worked but as we discovered the hard way one night, was to be used at your own risk. We did a lot of cooking to try and cut the expense of eating out while we were there. It was a blast! Nicole and I recorded vocals together in a little closet-like booth that we draped in material and found objects to set the mood. We had a bunch of weird props which we found at the dollar store down the street and masks were involved. The ambience put us in the right headspace for maximum rocking, and well theatrics are just Fun!

Finish this sentence: Motobunny is the band that...

...will guarantee you a good time and will put bunny masks, keytars and Lonnie Mack Flying V guitars on everyone's wishlists."

Follow Motobunny

"One could get lost in the family tree that has sprouted Motobunny so let's just summarize: members of The Love Me Nots and The Woolly Bandits have combined to produce a double frontwoman glam meets garage meets rockabilly meets pop band that's as hard to resist as they are to define. Legend has it that the band got together after meeting up at an Iggy Pop concert, and their sound reflects it. "Shake Me" and "Let's Go Out" are as catchy as any Top 40 Taylor Swift hit, but with a Motley Crue flair. When Gwen Stefani took a break from No Doubt and became a pop star, that's kind of what Motobunny feels like -- like some rock 'n' roll chicks who wanted to get their Dance on.
