Vans And DQM Present - Pave The Way - 12.1.11

Pave The Way, Photo Showcase by Mofo, C.R. Stecyk III, Lance Dawes & Tobin Yelland
Vans and DQM are proud to present "Pave The Way", a photo exhibition opening December 1, 2011, at The Vans DQM General in New York. "Pave The Way" showcases the legendary work of C.R. Stecyk III, Mofo, Tobin Yelland and Lance Dawes, chronicling their lives and iconic careers shooting some of the most pivotal photographs throughout the history of skateboarding and beyond.

In the late 1970's, co-founder of Zephyr Productions and original founder of the Dogtown movement, C.R. Stecyk III changed the look and feel of skateboarding forever. His articles and photo essays during the 1970's for Skateboarder Magazine and visuals for Powell Peralta during the Bones Brigade era set the standard for the documentation and attitude of skateboarding for years to come.

The true creative force behind the early Thrasher look, feel and voice; Mofo is the truth. From the beginnings of street skating, jump ramps, wallrides and McTwists, Mofo was there capturing the moment, defining and refining it for the rest of us and spewing it onto the pages of the "Bible".

Tobin Yelland became a professional photographer in 1990 after having his first photo published in Thrasher Magazine at the age of fifteen. Yelland's work has expanded beyond the world of skateboarding to form a vast collection of images that gives a voice to an entire generation, transcending many locales and social identities.

Lance Dawes moved to San Francisco from Washington DC in 1990 and worked in the darkroom at Thrasher Magazine before founding Slap Magazine in 1992, where he was editor, art director and chief photographer. Dawes was instrumental in documenting the San Francisco skate scene in the early 90's and has relentlessly continued to shoot skateboarding around the world over the past 20 years.

"Pave the Way" opens December 1, 2011 with an opening reception from 6 - 9 p.m. The show runs through January 4, 2012 at The Vans DQM General, 93 Grand St. New York, New York 10013.
